Just
One More Thing...
Columbo interview with Peter Falk
In
this special TV Time Machine interview,
we invite Peter Falk into our cosmic
cockpit-the man who created the quintessential
character cop by the name of Columbo.
Of the countless characters on television,
few are as memorable, classic, and
iconic as that seemingly dim-bulbed
homicide detective working for the
LAPD.
In this edition of TV Time Machine,
we are honored to be joined by Peter
Falk and Mark Dawidziak, author of
The Columbo Phile and television critic
for the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper.
Contained within these three audio
interview segments, Peter and Mark
explore Mr. Falk's vast constellation
of artistic excellence, as well as
that pesky personage known as Lt.
Columbo.

Columbo Peter Falk
audio interview Segment One
In this segment, Peter Falk talks
about growing up in Ossining, New
York, why it took him so long to decide
to become an actor, the reasons his
job as an efficiency expert for the
state of Connecticut wasn't very efficient,
and why the words "well you should
be," uttered by famed acting
coach Eva LaGallienne, ultimately
changed his life.
For this segment, Mr. Falk explains
how two raincoats helped him become
nominated for two Academy Awards for
Murder Inc. and Pocketful of Miracles,
and land him the role of Columbo.
Our legendary actor also talks about
what it's like to be confused for
both Peter Ustinov and Fidel Castro!
Mr. Falk also discusses the artistic
brilliance of his good friend and
award-winning director, John Cassavetes.
In this segment, host Jim Benson
asks Peter Falk, "just one more
thing," as Peter and TV critic
Mark Dawidziak discuss the genesis
of the Columbo character, the pilot
episode "Prescription Murder,"
creators Richard Levinson and William
Link, and Columbo's classic, but catastrophic,
car. Peter Falk also reads a passage
from Mark Dawidziak's book, outlining
all of the good lieutenant's relatives-both
real and imagined!
